Powerline Mountain Bike Trail

The Powerline is a fast technical red grade trail that travels from the main car park down beneath the path of the high voltage powerline towards the River Derwent. This trail was built in partnership between the Northeast Freeride Association (NEFA) and the Forestry Commission and is one of a suite of trails newly open in the Wood. The others are moderate 'blue' grade trails that follow the extensive forest road network.

How to get there:

Powerline Mountain Bike Trail can be started from Chopwell Wood Main Car Park in Chopwell Woodland Park. High Spen, Chopwell, Rowlands Gill, Gateshead, and Newcastle are the nearest towns or villages.

600 metres along road into the wood, the car park is situated on the left.

Red route short but fun, and a blast in the mud (which is often ). Also several other routes to find in the woods, ask a local, i did and found 2 more excellent runs. Combine with a half day at Hamsterly.

brilliant short little ride that you can add to with the abundance of unmarked trails all over the forest. Perfect for evening yes, and great for a race back home on the forest drive with your mates
