Habitat Trail

(Average user rating: unrated unrated)
The Habitat Trail is the most popular of all the facilities in Alice Holt Woodland Park. It is an exciting children's route which features four amazing wooden play sculptures of woodland animals. The trail begins at the far end of the third car park in dramatic fashion. A 50 foot high wooden Totem Pole is encircled by a huge wooden snake which coils around its base! The first play sculpture is the Owl. Children can climb up the tail of the giant bird and look down from the top of its head onto a hapless wooden mouse below! They can then use the fireman's pole to slide back down to earth. Next is the Woodpecker Tree. This takes the form of a large hollow tree trunk being pecked by a giant woodpecker. Within the tree trunk are a series of ladders and platforms leading them to the top. When they reach the viewing platform at the top children can look through the pine forest and see if they can spot the lifesize wooden woodpecker and squirrel attached to the nearby trees! Entering a darker part of the forest visitors will encounter the third play sculpture. They are twin climbing walls in the form of a bat and moth. Finally, comes the dragonfly. This is a balance beam structure zig-zagging between large wooden reed stems. The Habitat Trail is suitable for pushchairs.
