Mountain biking at Cannock Chase

Description

The Monkey Trail was built and designed in partnership with Chase Trails and features technical rock gardens, boardwalks, jumps and drops. The trail finishes with the awesome ‘Lower Cliff’ descent. More physically and technically demanding than Follow the Dog, this red graded singletrack mountain bike trail contains technical trail features and several black graded options.

The Monkey Trail start is reached by riding the first half of Follow the Dog.

Trail safety

Are you ready for this? Mountain biking is inherently risky, so the best way to stay safe is by being realistic about your own ability and aware of what's going on around you. Read our short safety guide

Trail etiquette

Be courteous and show respect to others. Give way to other users at junctions and on shared sections. Let slower riders know you are behind them without intimidating them. Pull over to let faster riders pass. Keep noise to a minimum and moderate your language around residential areas.

Chase Trails

Volunteer mountain bike trail builders Chase Trails were founded by local riders in 2003 with the aim of building and maintaining high quality, sustainable mountain bike trails on Cannock Chase. Working in partnership with the Forestry Commission they have built 15 miles of trails which they are continually working to maintain and improve. Read the Story of Chase Trail on their blog

I have just come back from Cannock and we did the monkey trail twice,I have never been able to conquer Cardiac Hill but on the second try today I did,I reckon the riders thought I was on drugs as I hit the top as I was quite exuberant as well as gasping lol Superb day, this is worth the hours drive.

Monkey Trail is awesome and the optional Black Run Sections are brilliant and will have you grinning from ear to ear. The Black runs whilst not long in length are technically challenging, more so than in comparison to some Black Graded trails in Wales. Thumbs up.
