Fairoak Walk

(Average user rating: unrated unrated)

About Fairoak Walk

The Fairoak walk wanders through a mixture of pine woodlands and open areas before arriving at the magnificent fairoak pools. This moderate walk is very popular with familes and contains only a couple of moderate hills. The fairoak valley contains a forest nature reserve and is frequented by a wide variety of birds and reptiles. The route starts and finishes at the Forest Centre.

How to get there:

Fairoak Walk can be started from Birches Valley Forest Centre in Cannock Forest. Rugeley is the nearest town or village.

From Rugeley head towards Penkridge along Hagley Road. The road changes into Penkridge Bank road as it enters Cannock Chase AONB. The Forest Centre is signposted on your left.

From Stafford head towards Cannock on the A34. Follow the signs for Pye Green or Rugeley. Once on Cannock Chase continue to head for Rugeley until signs for the centre on your right.

We didn't do this walk because we came on a Sunday and couldn't find out where it went or how long it was. The man in the bike shop said I need to come in the week when the forest office is open to get details of walking in the forest. How daft! I've never been to a forest walking area before where there wasn't a map with different coloured walks shown and an indication of their length. Even on your web site you don't show the walk on a map. Some people might need to check contours etc. before undertaking a walk.

Annual Fishing Permits for the Fairoak Pools can be purchased from the Distict Office. For more information please phone 01889 586593.

What to see now

Cannock Chase is home to large populations of nocturnal animals, therefore we ask that you enjoy the forest during daylight hours only and allow the wildlife to recuperate without disturbance.
