Verderers' Trail

(Average user rating5 unrated 5/5)

The highly rated Verderers’ trail designed and built by Rowan Sorrell's 'Back on Track' team is an exciting and adventurous trail for both intermediate and experienced cyclists on mountain bikes.  There are speedy berms and plenty of potential for getting your wheels off the ground.

Along the trail you will encounter a combination of different surfaces, some narrow sections, moderate climbs, humps, flowing berms and undulating whoops. There are two shortcut options back to the Cycle Centre if you decide that the trail is not suitable for your level of riding.

Take on the ‘Iron Chicken and ‘Blue String Pudding’ before the final descent of the trail which has received huge plaudits since its completion in the summer 2011.

The feedback about the trail has been unanimously positive with rave reviews from both hardcore cyclists and those that have not ridden a bike for many years. The trail overall gives a massive feeling of fun and riders complete the final downhill section with a huge grin.  For a map of the route use http://map.1sw.org.uk/#!/trailhub/4

MBR magazine have said this is an 11km loop you should definitely do twice.

Before cycling the trail, why not try out the skills loop which can be found near the start of the trail.  This is intended to help you develop your off road riding techniques and get a feel for your bike.

The Verderers’ trail is a ‘1 South West’ project www.1sw.org.uk which is creating an off-road cycling region for people to enjoy adventurous off-road cycling and want to progress their riding with confidence. It is funded by the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) Sustainable Rural Tourism Programme.

Excellent trail which, in contrast to some of the other trails at this centre, does seem to be exceptionally well maintained. Seems to pull off a couple of neat tricks too - one being that it caters for both experienced and intermediate riders at the same time. The trail itself is graded Blue, but incorporates a couple of Red sections. This is really good feature, especially for riders who are developing their skills. One constructive comment I'd like to make is that the ride would greatly benefit from the addition of one or two more Red sections. Another clever aspect is that you seem to gain more height that you reallise; You climb for a bit, then descend for a bit, and so on, but (unnoticably) it apprears as if you don't get back all the height you've climbed until the end of the ride, when you're surprised by a very long and really enjoyable downhill.

Excellent track which, combined with the other tracks at Cannop Cycle Centre, provides more than enough riding to fill a whole day.

This is a great track, fun all the way. Rewarding downhill.
