Yellow Walk (Bedburn)
About Yellow Walk (Bedburn)
This walk starts from the notice board in the main car park and follows the Riverside footpath and the Bedburn Beck for a short distance, before crossing the beck and climbing a steep bank. The route continues for nearly a mile before descending and returning through beautiful mixed woodland and rejoining the Bedburn, which is crossed at Low Redford. From here you return to the start through an oak wood which was planted in 1937 to commemorate the coronation of George VI, and thinned in 2006 to allow the trees space to grow to their full size. The Durham Bat Group has placed many bat boxes in this wood as it is rich in the insects they eat but short on nesting sites.
How to get there:
Yellow Walk (Bedburn) can be started from Hamsterley Forest Visitor Centre in Hamsterley. Hamsterley, Witton-le Wear, Wolsingham, Bishop Auckland, and Durham are the nearest towns or villages.
