(Average user rating: 5 Stars 4.3/5)

About Orange Walk (Bedburn)

A longer route in the Bedburn valley giving elevated views over the forest and showing varied habitats of mixed woodland. It follows the start of the yellow walk then leaves it for a higher forest road, dropping down to the Grove. The route now follows an old drove road to the ruin of Metcalf's house which was once a coaching inn complete with stables. A stone path takes you back to the forest drive and back to the start via an oak plantation.

How to get there:

Orange Walk (Bedburn) can be started from Hamsterley Forest Visitor Centre in Hamsterley. Hamsterley, Witton-le Wear, Wolsingham, Bishop Auckland, and Durham are the nearest towns or villages.

Turn right in Hamsterley village following the brown tourist signs, turn left in hamlet of Bedburn to enter the forest and access the forest drive and car parks (£3 toll fee).

Great walk, takes in various terrains, through paths with pine needles beneath your feet, joining tarmac occasionally, before heading back through broad-leaf forests.

I gave the orange walk four stars becuase we felt really relaxed taking our two labradors. Barely a sheep in sight, plenty of sploshing in the river and at 4.5 miles, just long enough to wear everyone out!
