Skills Area & Pump Trail

(Average user rating4 unrated 3.4/5)

These areas are purpose-built to help cyclists develop new off-road skills, with numerous features for all abilities, located either side of the gateway car park. Suitable for novice to advance riders.

Skills Area - gives you just a taster, with a variety of features you'll find on some of our trails. Easy, medium and hard options allow you to test and improve your skills.

Pump Trail - will help you find your flow. Bumps and bends will give you a feel for off-road cycling and how to handle the terrain.

The Pump Trail and Skills Area have been developed in partnership with the 1 South West off-road cycling project. 1 South West is creating an off-road cycling region for people to enjoy adventurous off-road cycling and progress their riding with confidence and provides the information to help you plan and enjoy great adventures time and again. How to get there:

Skills Area & Pump Trail can be started from Haldon Gateway in Haldon Forest Park. Exeter is the nearest town or village.

Travelling by car turn off the A38 at Exeter Racecourse and follow the signs for Haldon Forest Park. The Haldon Gateway Car Park is signposted further along the road on the left.

Please don't use our postcode in your Sat Nav! It will take you to the Forestry Commission Office and not the Haldon Forest Park visitor car park. Instead, carry on past the first gateway you see ('Office entrance only' is painted on the road there) and 200 metres on you will see the main entrance.

Skills area good, but a slight extension to the run in before the jumps wud be good. Love the 3 little drops. could do with a resculpt of the pump track - maybe get more action on it

Both tracks are aimed at children, and work well for them. However it would be nice to have a larger track for adults.

The skills area is ok, jumps could do do with a little more run in to get the speed or a bore defined lip. Pump track is rubbish, it is built on a hill and the berms are gravelled so front wheel grip inspires no confidence.
