The Discovery Trail is for everyone, and we mean everyone! This is a great all-ability trail for walkers and beginner cyclists. There are fun features along the route for children, regular resting points and some stunning views to be enjoyed.

This level, well surfaced trail uses the 'Access for All' standard suitable for wheelchairs and prams, and there are regular resting points.

What a superb centre, plenty to do. In fact we came back twice during our holiday, the children opted for the forest rather than the beach! The cafe is very good, the cakes-amazing! We took our 2 children aged 6 and 3 and both loved it, We will definately look for forests near us now. Great place to visit and lots of places to picnic! Thanks for all your hard work i maintaining this fantastic forest.

What's Here?

  • Forest drive
  • Play area
  • Barbeque
    • There are four large BBQs on site that can be pre-booked. To check availability and to make a booking please phone the forest office on 01296 625825. There are also smaller pitches, which are first come, first served. These are the only places on site where BBQs are permitted.
  • Cycling
    • There is a 9km family cycle trail around the woods. See leaflet for route or follow the cycle waymarkers on-site.
  • Horse riding
    • Horse-riding by permit only, Call 01420 23666
  • Orienteering
    • Twenty permanent orienteering posts scattered around this forest provide an uphill struggle. Maps can be purchased from the forest office or Wendover TIC. Please note post 16 has been temporarily removed.
  • Picnic
    • There are planty of grassy areas for picniccing.
  • Walking
    • There are a number of trails that run through Wendover Woods, including The Firecrest Trail, Forest Fitness Trail and All Ability Hilltop Trail. Pick up a trail guide from the dispensers in the car park or at the cafe.
  • Wildlife
    • The rare Firecrest can be seen amongst the tops of the Norway Spruce trees between April and August. During the summer the managed verges are a spectacular sight, covered with wild flowers including various orchid species. The wood also contains badger setts, an area managed for glow worms and four of the six owl species found in the British Isles.
