Pan-european indicators of sustainable forest management
A set of 35 Improved Pan-European Indicators of Sustainable Forest Management was adopted in April 2003 by the Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe (MCPFE). More details for each indicator are in a background information document, and another document gives details of definitions. These improved indicators are first being used for reporting in 2006-07. State of Europe's Forests 2003 is the MCPFE report on sustainable forest management in Europe, based on the previous set of pan-European indicators, updating statistics collected in the Forest Resources Assessment 2000. Final draft UK data for most of the pan-European indicators was submitted in December 2006, in an Enquiry on MCPFE Indicators for Sustainable Forest Management. The indicator report for MCPFE was supplemented by an Enquiry on European Private Forest Ownership. The UK initially reported in July 2006, for inclusion in a European report to be published by UNECE/FAO in Summer 2007. For more information, see the MCPFE website. The Global Forest Resources Assessment 2005 uses a different set of indicators. International results for Global FRA 2005 were published by UN FAO in November 2005, along with reports for 229 countries and territories. This includes a UK country report and separate reports for all British Overseas Territories and British Crown Dependencies.
