previous | next

Global production of wood products in 2011 totalled 396 million m3 of sawnwood, 290 million m3 of woodbased panels and 403 million tonnes of paper & paperboard (Table 9.5).

Europe produced around one third of all sawnwood in 2011 (mainly in EU countries), with around one quarter (26%) produced in North & Central America and a further quarter (24%) in Asia. Overall, sawnwood production increased by 4% between 2010 and 2011.

Wood-based panels were more commonly produced in Asia (around one half of global production), with around one quarter produced in Europe (mainly EU countries) and 15% in North & Central America. At a global level, wood-based panel production increased by 3% between 2010 and 2011.

Asia also accounted for over two fifths (45%) of paper and paperboard production, with around one quarter (27%) in Europe and a further quarter (23%) in North & Central America.
