Forestry Statistics 2012 - UK-Grown Timber

Pulp & paper

previous | next

Figures for the production of paper are provided by the Confederation of Paper Industries. They cover all paper production from UK mills, not just those using UK roundwood.

Most UK paper production uses recovered waste paper or imported pulp. The figures shown in Table 2.21 cover production by all mills in the UK, not just the integrated pulp and paper mills. A total of 4.3 million tonnes of paper and paperboard were produced in the UK in 2011, an increase of 1% from the previous year. Graphic papers (including newsprint) accounted for 38% of the total UK paper production, packaging materials for 37%, and sanitary and household papers for 18%.
