The charts compares accident rates in forestry and primary wood processing with the wider sectors, for the period 1996-97 to 2009-10 (provisional).

The first chart compares forestry with the wider sector including agriculture and fishing (excluding sea fishing). The rate in forestry declines from over 15 accidents per 1000 employees in some of the early years to around 10 per 1000 or less in later years. The accident rate for the wider sector is at a lower level, fluctuating between around 5 and 8 per 1000 over the period.

The second chart compares primary wood processing with all manufacturing. The rate in primary wood processing declines from over 20 accidents per 1000 employees in most of the early years to less than 15 per 1000 in the later years. The accident rate for the wider manufacuring sector is at a lower level, declining steadily from around 12 per 1000 in the early years to around 8 per 1000 in the later years.
