Figure 9.3 is a bar chart showing the countries with the largest changes in forest area between 2000 and 2005.  The countries are listed in order of the size of annual change, in millions of hectares per year:

  • Brazil (minus 3.1 million hectares)
  • Indonesia (minus 1.9 million hectares)
  • Sudan (minus 0.6 million hectares)
  • Myanmar (minus 0.5 million hectares)
  • Zambia (minus 0.4 million hectares)
  • Tanzania (minus 0.4 million hectares)
  • Nigeria (minus 0.4 million hectares) and
  • China (plus 4.1 million hectares)
