  • Further investigate and refine woodland area loss and creation.
  • Run, analyse and publish GB and country conifer forecasts (timber, biomass and carbon).
  • Complete 3600 field survey squares.

2012/13

  • Update NFI map and woodland area reports
  • Improve forestry element of Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) contract for Land Use, Land Use Change And Forestry (LULCF) Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reporting.
  • Complete 3600 field survey squares.
  • Final reports on Woodland area creation and loss for England, Scotland and Wales.
  • Define role of NFI in UK National Ecosystem Assessment and Natural Resource Capital Accounting

2013/14

  • Carry out interim analysis of results to date and define the prospectus and authorship for quinquennial reports.
  • Publish interim broadleaf forecast (ca +/- 10% @GB level).
  • Complete 3000 field survey squares.

2014/15

  • Update NFI map.
  • Contribute to international reporting milestones for Global Forest Resource Assessment and Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe.
  • Publish quinquennial ‘State of the Nations Forests’ report.
  • Complete the first 5-year cycle of Inventory and analyse results.
