Grizedale Forest is a haven for woodland wildlife and is home to the last naturally afforested herd of Red Deer in England. These can be seen roaming across the forest especially around dawn and dusk.
In addition to Red and Roe deer Grizedale is home to Barn owls and buzzard.
The Brant Wetlands near the Visitor Centre are a great place to see butterflies and dragonflies in the summer whilst the many tarns (small areas of water) scattered across the forest attract other species to drink such as fox and badger.
