Your Outdoor Classroom

Little boy birdwatching with binoculars.

The Forestry commission is committed to providing education opportunities within the forest environment. In Thames Chase we offer a self led education programme encouraging schools to use our woodlands as extensions to their classrooms.

To help make this easier we have developed an outdoor classroom guide and resources base. The guide offers a range of lesson plans for KS1 & KS2. The guide also provides information on how these lessons link into the curriculum and information on green classrooms and forest schools.

Click on the links on the right hand side of this page to view the lesson plans, a full copy of the outdoor classroom guide can be downloaded opposite.

Resources

To help even more with getting teachers to use  woodlands as outdoor classrooms we have a store of resources to help you deliver all the lessons outlined in the guide. These can be obtained by contacting the Community Ranger. You will be required to register your school and then leave a small deposit to ensure safe return of the items. You are then free to use the resources for a period of 1 month.
