FELLING AND CLEARANCE OF PHYTOPHTHORA AFFECTED TREES
EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
Forestry Commission England is inviting expressions of interest for contracts to undertake the initial cutting of tree crops affected by Phytophthora ramorum.
The work is to comply with felling notices that will be issued as and when diseased areas are confirmed. As yet there is no information about the size or value of the clearance programme.
Under the Plant Health Act, Forest Enterprise is currently required to cut an as yet unknown area of predominantly larch crops in the South West of England up to September 2012. The contracts will be to fell or clear young crops, to ensure that the trees cannot spread the disease. Further working of the felled trees (conversion, extraction, stacking, etc) may be included. Once felling notices are issues, the work areas will be tendered in several different sized Lots according to geographic, crop and terrain features.
We anticipate tendering work in Lots that will generally be in the range of £5.000 - £20,000. The number of Lots is as yet unknown.
Commencement dates will be as soon as possible after contracts are awarded. Time will be the essence of the contracts with full completion expected by the date agreed with the successful bidder.
