THE CONSOLIDATION OF THREE HISTORIC BRIDGES ON PART OF THE 18TH CENTURY MILITARY ROAD NETWORK AT ACHLAIN, GLENMORISTON
EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified contractors to undertake the consolidation of three scheduled historic bridges on part of the 18th century military road network at Achlain, Glenmoriston (NH285120). 

The bridges are constructed from sandstone with stone pinnings and rest on low abutment walls. The bridges measure between 2.5 m and 4.5 m in span, and 1.0 m to 2.0 m in height.

The works comprise:

  • the removal of vegetation and top soil under archaeological supervision.
  • temporary diversion of watercourses to enable works to bridge arches.
  • provision of all temporary works to support the bridge structures during work including cover to the bridges to protect from weather.
  • raking and repointing of stonework using natural hydraulic lime and aggregates  to FCS specification.
  • form clay water-shedding layer, wearing surface and replace earth.
  • supply of all specified materials required.

Contractors will be required to visit the site to fully appreciate the site, its access constraints and work specifications as a part of the tender process.

The estimated total value of the contract is £60,000.

The anticipated contract start date will be 1st June 2012 to be completed by 31st August 2012.

DEER MANAGEMENT CONTRACTS-TAY FOREST DISTRICT
INVITATION TO TENDER

The Forestry Commission (FC) is inviting tenders from individuals or companies who can provide deer culling services to protect forests and other habitats on the National Forest Estate in Tay Forest District.

The contracts (2) are for the culling of red, roe and sika deer, extracting and delivering to FC deer larders to Scottish Wild Venison Quality Assurance Standards.

The estimated total value of the contracts is £52,000. (Two Contracts @ £28,000 and £24,000 per annum).

The estimated contract cull is 650 (350 & 300) deer per year.

The anticipated commencement date will be 2/04/2012 with completion by 31/03/2013 with possibility of extension of a further two years reviewed annually (1+1+1)

Forestry Commission Scotland is inviting quotes for the upgrading of a car park at the top of the Rest and Be Thankful in Argyll.

The work involves:-
• the widening of the access to the main road including culverting and tarmaccing,
• extension of existing parking bays by moving soil,
• putting down base layer material and adding tarmac, and rolling,
• Inclusion of new purpose built parking bays for both cars and burger van. 
• The construction of a small section of footpath approximately 30meters in length,
• Installation of new specific stonework (bollard type) to facilitate discrete public access and restrict car traffic,  Movement of existing located stone,
• Installation of signwork (provided by the Forestry Commission) at one designated area. 

Work will involve the contractor acquiring and bringing appropriate stone material, specific stone boulders and tarmac to site at their expense.

The estimated total value of the contract is £25,000

INVERNESS, ROSS AND SKYE FOREST DISTRICT
INVITATION TO TENDER

Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) is inviting tenders for two deer culling contracts in the North of Scotland within Inverness, Ross and Skye Forest District. The contracts are for the culling of Roe, Sika and Red deer as follows:-

  • Contract 1 is in Glenurquhart with an estimated volume of 600 deer (+/-30%) and an estimated total value of £56,400 (+/-30%),
  • Contract 2 will be in the Inverness area consisting of Culloden, Moy, Farr, Assich, Daviot and Glenferness with an estimated volume of 750 deer (+/-30%) and an estimated total value of £70,500 (+/-30%).

FCS reserves the right to change these areas at any time.
 
The anticipated contracts start date will be the 2nd of April 2012 to be completed by 31st of March 2015.

HARVESTING CHAINSAW CONTRACT IN GALLOWAY FOREST DISTRICT
INVITATION TO TENDER

Forestry Commission Scotland is inviting tenders from contractors to undertake a harvesting chainsaw contract in Galloway Forest District, working in conjunction with the Forestry Commission (FC) direct production machinery fleet and FC civil engineering department. 
 
The work will mainly involve tree felling (primarily big trees), clearing windblown trees and hand winching with an element of tree brashing, stump height reduction and reducing unprocessed log lengths. Each job will require a site specific risk assessment.

Our intention is to award this contract for a period of 1 year. There will be an option to extend the contract agreement, provided the initial year’s work is satisfactory, by up to a further 1 year giving a potential for 2 years in total.

The total value of this contract over the entire period including any extension options will be in the region of £150,000.

The estimated contract volume will vary depending on the specific annual requirements of the road squad and the harvesting operations team but will be agreed prior to work commencing to meet operational needs.

The anticipated commencement date will be 1st April 2012 with completion by 31st March 2013, with possibility of extension of a further 1 year until 31st March 2014.

Moray & Aberdeenshire Forest District - 2 Contracts for the culling of Red, Roe and possibly Sika deer within Moray & Aberdeenshire Forest District

Contract 1 is centred around three locations Aberdeen, Inverurie and Ballater and will consist of deer management units (DMUs) – 51304, 51305, 51313, 51314, 51318, 51319, 51322, 51323, 51324  (see appendix TEN/GRA/2011/09).

Contract 2 will be in the Elgin/Forres area and will consist of DMUs  51326, 51327 and 51329 (see appendix TEN/GRA/2011/10).
The Forestry Commission Scotland reserves the right to change these areas at any time.
 
The estimated total value of the contracts are,
TEN/GRA/2011/09 (£108,000 +/- 30%) 
TEN/GRA/2011/10 (£72,000 +/- 30%)
