Time series data

Longer time series data for the Coniferous Standing Sales Price Index, for years ending March 1985 to March 2014, are available in EXCEL spreadsheet and PDF formats. The data also give underlying figures for volumes, total prices and average prices by average tree size in Great Britain.

Longer time series data for the Softwood Sawlog Price Index, for 6 month periods ending March 1985 to March 2014, are available in EXCEL spreadsheet and PDF formats. The data also give underlying figures for average prices in Great Britain.

Methodology

The methodology used to construct the Coniferous Standing Sales Price Index (now published in Timber Price Indices) changed from November 2008 (data to September 2008). Further information on this change is provided on our Statistical Methodology and Reviews page.

Real terms timber prices are calculated using the GDP deflator from the Office for National Statistics.

Release schedule & previous releases

Price indices for standing sales and for softwood sawlog prices are published twice yearly. These indices are based on Forestry Commission data.
