Each year we invite students who are working towards a Forestry Qualification to apply for the opportunity to obtain work experience within a forest environment.
Our sandwich placements provide a great opportunity for you to develop a strong, diverse and meaningful understanding of the job, become an active member of a professional team and build up a good working relationship with staff across all functions.
The experience you will gain working with us will help you in your college or university course, and will be of real value in future years. An entry on your CV about your placement will be of great interest to prospective employers.
Location
In 2009/10 it is expected there were 16 places available spread across Forest Districts, Conservancies and Community Woodlands from North Scotland right down to Southern England and Wales.
Many students use their placement year to try out areas of Britain they have never visited to broaden their horizons and gain new life experience before settling down to a permanent job.
Duration
Each placement lasts for 51 weeks, and runs from September to August.
Salary and other benefits
Whilst on placement you will receive a salary (currently £12,428 per year), 25 days paid annual leave and 10.5 public and privilege holidays.
We will cover the cost of your essential training and travel, and provide essential clothing and equipment. We can also help you find somewhere local and reasonably priced to stay, but costs of accommodation, day-to-day living expenses and travel to and from your placement will have to be covered by you.
What qualifications will I need?
In order to apply for one of our placements, you must be working towards a Forestry Qualification.
As our forests districts cover large areas and are often not regularly serviced by public transport, you will also need a current driving licence and at least 6 months driving experience to undertake a placement with us.
