Whinlatter offers a fantastic range of exciting curriculum linked activities based within England’s only mountain forest.  Our Education Service is accredited by the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge ensuring a valuable learning experience for all.

Situated 1000ft above sea level Whinlatter offers a unique mountain learning environment.  The classroom is within an hours travel by coach of much of the Lake District National Park, Ambleside, Kendal, Windermere, Penrith and Carlisle and within half an hour of Workington and Whitehaven.

Learning Opportunities

We offer a wide range of programmes for Key Stages 1-4.

We also offer tailor made sessions for vocational studies and A Level courses. Our education rangers carry out a variety of conservation work with community and school groups.  We support learners in achieving their John Muir Award, in particular the conservation aspects.

Our rangers are also trained Forest School practitioners and will be happy to offer support and guidance to schools wishing to run a Forest School .  If you are interested in developing a forest school, we may be able to offer you a site in one of our neighbouring forests.
