Volunteering

Watching Ospreys from Dodd WoodVolunteering can be a rewarding experience and The Forestry Commission in North West England is looking to develop opportuntities for people to become involved in its work across the region both directly and through partners.

Volunteers make important contributions to activities such as the Lake District Osprey Project and offer people the opportuntity to build experience that latter helps them secure permanent employment. See below for further links.

The Lake District Osprey Project

The Lake District Osprey Project relies upon volunteers to staff its viewpoint at Dodd Wood, exhibition at Whinlatter and nest secureity team. Volunteers are usually recruited at the beginning of each new season between February and March.

Experience the wild outdoors by helping shape the future of the Ennerdale Valley in West Cumbria. Volunteers meet formally on the third Tuesday of the month as well as carrying out a range of activities inbetween. Community Woodlands in Greater Manchester and Merseyside

The Forestry Commission is working in partnership with the Groundwork Trust, The Mersey Forest and Red Rose Forest to transform derelict, underused and neglected land into thriving , durable coummnity woodlands. .

Other Volunteering Opportuntities

The National Trust is a partner with the Forestry Commission in the Wild Ennerdale Partnership and elsewhere across the North West. The National Trust provides many opportuntities for volunteers to help manage its land and buildings.

The Lake District National Park Authority provides a range of volunteering opportuntities in Cumbria, through its Volunteers Service  .

The RSPB manage many nature reserves across the North West of England and offer a range of experiences from outdoors to indoors.
