Past, Present and Future

Present
The Forestry Commission Wales team are getting ready for their 7th annual conference.  Sixty children from twenty different schools from across North and Mid Wales will be attending the Forest Climate Change conference at Plas Tan y Bwlch on October 22nd 2009.

A full report will be available after the event, including a selection of climate change linked resources for KS2.

Future
The Forestry Commission Woodlands for Learning Team is developing a Scheme of Work for visits and pre-visit work covering Climate Change and the role that woodlands and forests play. There are curriculum links to ESDGC biology, geography for Key Stage 3.

We will be looking at the carbon cycle and carbon capture in woodlands, uses of timber, deforestation, sustainable management and comparisons to hydro-carbon based fuels.

To further develop this area we are looking for secondary Schools across Wales who would be interested in a free pack and visit to a woodland close to their location.
