Woodland Visits for Schools & Groups

Education visits are free to groups and schools in Wales and all the activities are planned, risk assessed and led by Forestry Commission Wales Education Officers.  Activities can be tailored to meet your group's age, themes and needs.  For some sessions pre visit & post visit resources are available.

Some examples of activities include:

  • Foundation Phase/Key Stage 1: Forest Senses - Explore the woodland using your senses of smell, touch, sight and sound.
  • Key Stage 2: Climate Change - Learn about climate change through practical, hand-on games and activities.
  • Key Stage 2: Woodland Art – A variety of fun activities designed to explore colour, texture and shape. Create large sculptures and small pictures using the natural materials of the woodland.
  • Key Stage 2 & 3: Shelter Building – Learn about animal homes, nests and why they need them, e.g. for shelter and protection. In groups build dens or nests from natural materials.
  • All ages: Tree Planting - Learn about different trees and their importance to us and the environment.  Plant some trees and see how they can help improve an area for wildlife, shade and learning.

For more information and to book your visit contact your local education officer.

Self-led Trails - Some of our woodlands have self-lead trails.  Please note, if you wish to self-lead a visit you must pre book the site with your local education officer.
