When is the Sculptree Auction?
Bank Holiday Monday 31st August 2009 at 3.00.p.m
How much do the carvings sell for?
Many people want an idea of how much the carvings will fetch. This is always difficult to estimate as they vary in size, detail and popularity of style and subject. As with any auction, you may get a bargain, or you may be in competition with many others. In the past prices ranged from £800 - £10,500 for the large pieces and £80 - £2200 for the smaller pieces, so decide your personal limit and have a go!
Where does the money go?
Some 50% of the money raised will be donated to TREE AID, the remainder goes mainly to the sculptor, and some goes to support the Forestry Commission's management of Westonbirt Arboretum.
Where can I get more information about the auction?
Visit the Sculptree Information desk at the Foresty Commissions' Information Tent from Friday 28 August through to Bank Holiday Monday where you will receive advice about the carvings, transportation and future care of the carving, as well as information about the auction process.
Do I have to register in advance to take part in the auction?
No, but it would help us if you do! If you would like to participate in the auction, register in advance at the Sculptree information desk at the Forestry Commissions Information Tent and receive your own personal identification number which you can wave at the auctioneer. You can also email westonbirt.events@forestry.gsi.gov.uk with your name, address and contact details and register you in advance.
The fact that you have not registered does not stop you taking part. Just bid by raising your hand, and if necessary shout to attract attention!
I can’t come to the auction but would like to bid - what can I do?
If you wish to bid for a carving, but can’t be here on Monday, you may hand in a sealed bid at the Information Desk, or ask for someone to bid on your behalf (written authorisation will be required.)
How do I pay for my sculpture?
All carvings must be paid for immediately after the auction, a receipt will be issued and this must be shown to the carver before the carving can be removed. Cash, cheques with a guarantee card, and credit and debit cards are acceptable.
How do I get my Sculpture home?
Once purchased the sculpture is your responsibility. Westonbirt Arboretum will hold the sculpture on site after the event (with prior agreement) and it is advisable to arrange the removal as soon as possible. The sculpture will be roped but this is a public area and sculptures are tactile!
Sculptures cannot be moved on the day of the auction until after 6pm due to the health and safety hazards of moving vehicles when large numbers of pedestrians are on site.
The sculptor and members of our Festival Team can give you advice about moving your sculpture as they will have already moved the sculpture ahead of the auction. If you have any difficulty please contact the Sculptree Information desk.
When you have arranged to move your sculpture please contact Westonbirt Arboretum to advise them of the details.
