GRIFOLA FRONDOSA . The excavated stump , standing inverted , roots in the air , of a large Quercus robur . The roots are severely rotted by this fungus . No stain or decay was evident at the stump surface 18 inches above the ground . Here and there the subcortical mycelium extended a few inches above ground level . Some limbs had died in the crown . Location: Bedgebury Pinetum , Kent , England .
