RAPTOR VIEWPOINTTwo small parking areas give access to fantastic views of the Upper Derwent Valley and the North York Moors beyond.

Mammals: Roe deer are occaisonally seen on tracks and in fields in the area along with fox and badger. Keep an eye open! We have information about Roe deer and Badger

Birds: Local people maintain a small bird feeding station at this site, which is visited by a range of woodland species including, great, blue and coal tit, chaffinch and green finch and great spotted woodpecker.

Insects and reptiles: On warm days and in the right season the area is frequented by peacock, small tortoiseshell and orange-tip butterflies. Adders and common lizard both occur in Wykeham forest but are rarely seen except by the most quiet and careful observers. We have information about Adder

Habitats: The surrounding forest is a mosaic of coniferous trees of assorted size and age. The roadsides in the area are lime rich and in summer common spotted and twayblade orchids are common in the vicinity of this car park. Away from the roads the woodland is predominantly acidic with plants such as ling heather and bilberry.

How to get there:
Leave A170 at Wykeham for North Moor. Keep going until you reach a 'T' junction. you will see the car park opposite.
