Abbeyford

(Average user rating5 unrated 4.2/5)

On the outskirts of Okehampton the walks through this beautiful wood lead you past majestic Douglas Fir trees, through areas of old beech and alongside the banks of the River Okement, and is therefore popular with local people.

From here, you can join the Tarka Trail, or explore for yourself the many unmarked tracks and trails.

How to get there:

Okehampton is the nearest town or village.

Travelling south along the A30 take the first exit to Okehampton town centre and turn right at the first set of traffic lights (signposted North Road Industrial Estate). Turn right at the T-junction, then first left and follow the road to the top of the hill where you will find the main Abbeyford car park.

enjoyed this walk with the dogs, although disappointed no dog bins, lots of poo bags are just thrown to the side of the path, not good

Beautiful woods, but does anyone have a map because it is very easy to get lost? (last time, me, the kids and the dog were in there for nearly 2 hours - only meant to go for a short walk!!!) There are lovely big wide paths that you assume are circular routes, but they suddenly just stop, and are replaced by narrow tracks which the kids found really hard to cycle. We really need a map!!

Beautiful woodland and river, the perfect place to unwind. If you visit early morning, or late evening, you might get to see some of the elusive deer population.
