About Tywi Forest

Tywi Forest is a vast plantation, covering both hilltops and valleys in the mid Wales Cambrian Mountains. The unique landscape of Tywi Forest provides spectacular views including the Llyn Brianne Reservoir.

How to get there:

Abergwesyn, Tregaron, Llandovery, Lampeter, and Llanwrtyd Wells are the nearest towns or villages.

Follow signs from Beulah, located on the A483, to Abergwesyn and then signs for Llyn Brianne Reservoir. Alternatively, Tywi Forest can be accessed from Tregaron, located on the A485, following the mountain road towards Abergwesyn or from Llandovery (on the A483) take the Cilycwm Road up the Twyi valley to the southern end of Llyn Brianne.

Although the dead and dying trees appear unsightly they provide a rich resource of deadwood suitable for insect, fungi and nesting birds. As the trees decay they will allow more light to reach the ground canopy, enabling trees such as Oak and Rowan to spring up. In time a new native broadleaved woodland will develop.
