About Dinas Rock
Gunpowder and waterfalls
This car park is an ideal starting point for exploring the valleys of the Afon Mellte, either on the Gunpowder Trail or Sgwd yr Eira MP3 audio trails, part of a series of Waterfalls Country MP3 audio trails. This site is extremely popular with outdoor activities centres carrying out climbing and gorge walking so parking might be a problem for latecomers.
Walking up the path close to the river Mellte you will quickly become aware of the industrial buildings that made up the former gunpowder works. Pontneddfechan Village Hall is 50m away from Dinas Rock car park. On some summer weekends a café and toilet facilities are available at the hall.
Take care in waterside areas as the rivers can be dangerous. Water is often cold deep and fast flowing. The ground near waterfalls is also steep rough and slippery. Keep to footpaths to prevent unnecessary erosion.
