About Blaen y Cwm Picnic Site

There is timber harvesting currently in the area, please obey all signs. Blaen-y-Cwm is situated in the Brecon Beacons National Park in the Black Mountains, north of Abergavenny. It is located at the northern end of Mynydd Du forest providing scenic views of the valley with Offa's Dyke on the eastern ridge and a good area for recreation. Remnants of the workers village 'Tin Town' can be seen near the carpark, it had its own classroom and hospital, over 400 people lived in the village, it also had electricity before Abergavenny.

How to get there:

Blaen y Cwm Picnic Site is in Mynydd Du which is part of Brecon Beacons National Park Forests.
From Abergavenny follow A465 North. After approximately 4 miles turn left at Llanvihangel Crucorney (Follow signs to Llanthony Abbey). At Stanton (approximately 2 miles) turn left and follow Forest Coal Pit signs. Follow the road to Mynydd Du (6 miles). The picnic site is on the right after Cadwgan car park.
Abergavenny and Hay on Wye are the nearest towns or villages.

Take care in waterside areas as lakes and rivers can be dangerous. Water is often cold, deep and fast flowing. Keep to footpaths to prevent unecessary erosion.

Grwyne Fawr reservoir was once rated the highest in Britain at 1790ft (545m).
