About Achray Forest

Find inspiration and exhilaration amongst bristly wooded hills and sparkling lochs at Achray Forest. The forest sits astride the Duke's Pass between Loch Achray and the Trossachs to the north, and Aberfoyle to the south.

Perched above Aberfoyle on the very edge of the Highlands, the David Marshall Lodge Visitor Centre is the ideal place to start your visit to the forest.

3 Lochs Forest Drive offers superb views across the forest towards the Trossachs, and is a marvellous way to explore the forest.

Adjacent to the drive there is an interesting area of wetland between Lochs Venachar and Achray known as Blackwater Marshes. This is a good birding area - wildfowl that might be seen include greylag, gooseander teal and wigeon. It is also an unusual area of raised bog and holds much botanical interest.

How to get there:

Achray Forest is part of Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. Aberfoyle is the nearest town or village.

From Aberfoyle follow the A821 northwards onto the Duke's Pass.

From Callander follow the A821 west along the north side of Loch Venachar to the the Trossachs.

Was up in loch ard forest during last years Rally of Scotland. The views were amazing. Hopefully be back in 2011

Fantastic wood and plenty to see and do, if you have teenagers then the go ape trail is great for them or if your feeling adventourous you could try it. Younger children will love the trail by the waterfall where they can go to the hide and watch the red squirrels playing., these can als be viewed from the visitor centre , where you can get a nice meal or just a cup of something warm. The rspb station in the lodge has a wealth of information and the staff are very helpfull and will regail you of many a story about the animals in the vicinity. If you are not a member of the RsPB then do consider joining, it's well worth it.
