Although Camore Wood only lies two miles from Dornoch, it feels like it could be a million miles away. The trees and the plant life give this wood the atmosphere of a native pinewood.

Camore Wood was not always as quiet as it is now - there are the remains of 25 hut circles, many in an excellent state of preservation.

Please visit ‘Timelinks’ in Dornoch for more information on local archaeology and history. A distinctive glacial feature called an esker dominates much of the woodland.

As well as enjoying the tranquillity of this beautiful wood there is a permanent orienteering course – maps and packs are available from the North Highland Forest District Office (01408 634063).

Camore Wood is being managed under a type of forestry called continuous cover, where only small areas of trees are felled at any time - this has benefits for birdlife and helps encourage a greater variety of tree sizes and species.
