Kinloch

Colour rating today: turned golden turned golden
Kinloch (Ceann-Loch: Head of the Loch)
Kinloch Forest and Leitirfura Village lie around 6 miles south of Broadford on the road to Armadale (A851), from where the Mallaig Ferry runs. They lie just north of Isle of Oronsay and contain a carpark with picnic tables, two walks and a ruined crofting township with interpretive information. The forest and walks overlook the Sound of Sleat; between Skye and the Mainland, and offer superb views onto Knoydart and the small Isles (Eigg and Rum).
Clumps of gold and brown will begin to show through in these areas as autumn winds start to blast colour into exposed groups of trees along the hillsides. The profusion of scarlet Rowan berries and crimson brambles contrast well against the more mellow autumn colours. Kinloch Woodlands can also be seen well from Glenelg on the mainland where the colours create a ribbon of column between the sea and the hills.

How to get there:

Isleornsay, Skulamus, Broadford, Kyleakin, and Isle Of Skye are the nearest towns or villages.

From the A850 Kyleakin to Portree road, turn south at Skulamus along the A851. Kinloch forest is 4 miles further on, on the east of the A851.
