Inverwick Wood

Colour rating today: turned golden turned golden
A Caledonian Pinewood at the head of Glenmoriston. Appreciate the mixture of pine, birch and rowans within the mist of gold’s, bronzes and greens. Note the flash and fire of the bird cherry as it turns scarlet in the first frosts of the year. Aspen here makes for a golden autumn stunner. Take a drive to Torgoyle from Invermoriston and take in the colours, stop at Torgoyle and walk Wades Road on the shorter tracks through the pines to see the forest colours as the bracken, blueberry and heather prepare for winter. Car parks at Inverwick road end grid ref 324135 and at forest road grid 328128 with short link/loop paths or walk back over the hill on Wades Road to Fort Augustus. The higher viewpoints give views to the north over the Blararidh Birch Woods spectacular en masse.
