About Glen Urquhart
Glen Urquhart is a very beautiful Highland glen with an attractive mix of planted, conifer forest and native, broadleaved woodlands.
Many areas are suitable for walking. There are waymarked walks in Craigmonie woodland, near Drumnadrochit at the foot of the glen. There is also a network of forest roads all along the glen which are ideal for walking, cycling and horse-riding.
Balnain Bike Park is the cycling equivalent of a skateboard park, just as testing of your skills and every bit as energetic. The park is for experienced mountain bikers and is graded 'extreme'.
The main access points for Glen Urquhart forest are at Balnain, Sheneval and Polmailly.
How to get there:
Drumnadrochit, Balnain, Shenval, Corrimony, Cannich, and Inverness are the nearest towns or villages.
Glen Urquhart forest is adjacent to the A831 on both sides of the glen from Drumnadrochit to Corrimony.
There is an infrequent bus service from Inverness to Cannich that stops in Glen Urquhart.

Polmaily, near Drumnadrochit. Forest tracks through a mixed coniferous & broadleaved woodland, surrounding an area of wood pasture. Woodland Grazing is part of the management strategy for Butterflies in this are, please ensure gates are left as found. Located 2 miles west of Drumnadrochit alongside A831 just west of junction with A833. Roadside parking at NH 483305 (OS map 26). |
