Dalbeattie Forest

(Average user rating5 unrated 5/5)

About Dalbeattie Forest

The northern end of Dalbeattie Forest is known as the Town Wood due to its position on the edge of Dalbeattie town and its popularity with locals.

Originally an area of rough grazing and granite outcrops, the forest was planted in the 1920’s, and now extends 6 miles south to the village of Colvend.

As one of the 7stanes mountain biking centres, the forest also offers great opportunities for cycling, starting from the Richorn car park.

Why not come along to one of our events to find out more about the forest? From wildlife walks to den building, there's something for everyone! Check out the events guide on this page for more information.

The Dalbeattie Forest Community Partnership was set up in 1999 to contribute towards the management of the forest.

How to get there:

Dalbeattie Forest is part of Forests of the Solway Coast. Dalbeattie, Colvend, and Castle Douglas are the nearest towns or villages.

Leave Dalbeattie on the A710, heading south towards Colvend. All forest walks start from the 'Town Wood' car park (which is the first car park on the left).

All bike trails start from the 'Richorn Trailhead' (which is the second car park on the left).

The nearest train station is in Dumfries.
