About Ardgartan

Ardgartan, nestled beneath the iconic peaks of the Cobbler (Ben Arthur) is an area of  vast natural beauty just waiting to be discovered, which fully desreves it's name of "the High Garden".

The plantation forest (mainly Sitka and Norway Spruce) provides an ideal habitat for Red Squirrel, Roe Deer, Buzzards, and Owls - to name but a few.  While the mixed woodland which fringes the numerous small  rivers and streams play host to Otters, Kingfishers, Bats and many spectacular fungus species.

You can explore the area on foot, by bicycle or even on horseback via one of the FCs maintained trails (see separate trails page), some of which climb high into the forested hill, while other skirt the secluded shores.

Experience the contrast of fantastic panoramic views over Loch Long and the surrounding hills whilst at the same time feeling that you are being enclosed in a Secret Forest.
