Ardentinny and Glenfinnart

(Average user rating5 unrated 5/5)

About Ardentinny and Glenfinnart

Following recent weather conditions, we would advise anyone visiting the forest to exercise extra caution as there are likely to be blown trees and storm damage which we have not had the opportunity to make safe.  We are currently working to inspect all our facilities and forest blocks, if you do come across anything of concern please do report it to us on 01369 860 703.

The road winds below wooded slopes to the village of Ardentinny, which sits in a south-facing bay. There are a selection of Forest Walks in this area, with easy/moderate and strenuous ratings. One of these walks is designated ‘easy access’.

Across the River Finart, the Forestry Commission has provided a car park by the splendid sandy beach, facing south-east down Loch Long. This is a good spot for watching waders at low tide.

Please note that this is a car park & picnic site - so called "Wild Camping" is not permitted here.  There are a couple of camping sites locally, contact the offfice for details.

Follow the rollicking single-track road up Glenfinart. This is an attractive little valley, pastoral in its open lower strath and rugged in its upper reaches. The pass at the top offers superb views down Loch Eck and the surrounding hills. The road then drops steeply down to Whistlefield to join the main A815 road by Loch Eck.

See also our pages on forests around Dunoon.

How to get there:

Ardentinny and Glenfinnart is part of Argyll Forest Park. Dunoon is the nearest town or village.

There are two equally appealing approaches to the Forest Park from Glasgow.

Take the car ferry from Gourock to Dunoon, follow the A815 onto the A880 to Ardentinny.

Alternately, take the A82 along the western shore of Loch Lomond through Tarbet, entering the Park at Arrochar, onto the A815 then the A880.
