Blackhall Forest

This long thin forest which stretches from the River Dee up to the summit of the Hill of Goach and the Hill of Tillylair has much involvement from the local communities. The eastern end of the forest is Scolty Woodland Park, which has many waymarked trails. The local people are involved in the management of the park through the Scolty Woodland Park Association.

The west end of the forest is Shooting Greens, so called because people used to practise archery there. It also has many waymarked trails.

The north west area of this forest, called Slewdrum, is owned by Birse Community Trust.

What is there to see?

The interesting mix of tree ages and species, and the mosaic of conifers, broadleaves, open space, moorland, and small ponds and burns makes Blackhall a haven for local wildlife, and an interesting place to walk with constantly changing views.

How to get there:

Banchory, Strachan, Auchattie, Potarch, and Kincardine O'Neil are the nearest towns or villages.

Blackhall lies on the south side of the River Dee, between Auchattie and Potarch.
