This picturesque woodland was formally two colliery sites. Through a process of coal washing, engineering, landscaping, fertilising and planting Silverhill Wood has been transformed into the beautiful Community Woodland it is today.
With its mixture of mature broadleaf woodland and newly planted trees, large open meadows and ponds, the site is rapidly developing into one of the most attractive wildlife areas in the region.
Silverhill wood also boasts the views from the highest point in Nottinghamshire, definitely worth a visit. The viewpoint is marked by an impressive miner's memorial statue and from here you can see Hardwick Hall, Bolsover Castle, the rolling hills of the Peak District and on a clear day Lincoln Cathedral.
How to get there:
Teversal, Stanton Hill, Stanley, and Fackley are the nearest towns or villages.
The car park is on Silverhill lane. This is just off the B6014, near the Canarvon Arms pub, in Teversal.
