A fabulous walking area. Real variety as you wander through woodland to Castle Hill with it strange evocation of the past, on to scramble into McCartney's cave, then out on to open moorland and the great views from long crag (there's also a lovely tarn to seek out). Wildlife is prolific, regular sightings of roe deer at all times of the day, adders, a plethoa of birds, red squirrels and (I can't explain why but these are a particular favourite) steely blue millipedes at the cairn on open moorland. Thrunton is a great day out.
