About Kielder

The scale of Kielder Forest is enough to take your breath away! At 250 square miles it is England’s largest forest. But Kielder is not just about trees. At any one time, a quarter of the area of Kielder is open space, including England’s largest area of blanket bog. Kielder is also England’s most important red squirrel reserve, home to the biggest remaining population of red squirrels in the country. A visit to Kielder will uncover many surprises such as the Minotaur Maze and Skyspace. So if it is tranquillity and wild beauty you are after then click on……..

How to get there:

Kielder Village, Bellingham, Hexham, Newcastle, Jedburgh, and Hawick. are the nearest towns or villages.

From the nearby villages of Bellingham and Newcastleton follow signs to Kielder Water and Forest Park which will take you onto the C200 - the road which runs adjacent to the southern shore of Kielder Water.

Access to the forest can be gained from a number of points along the C200, alternatively continue to Kielder Castle Forest Park Centre at the northern end of Kielder Water.

By Public Transport

Reaching Kielder Castle by public transport is not straightforward. The only daily direct service is by Postbus from Hexham (via Bellingham).

At weekends during the summer, the ‘Kielder Bus’ (service number 714, Arriva) runs a morning service between the Metro Centre and Kielder village, returning late afternoon.

Went to Bull Crag today. Please, please don't go; it was so good, we want to keep it to ourselves ;-) Absolutely blissful peace and quiet, saw only 2 people in 2 hours. Lovely easy walking routes, and all within sight of the water. Will be back soon.

Kershope Forest - Cuddy's Hall walk is perfect for our doggy holidays in the area. We could do with finding a holiday cottage to rent in the area (as isolated as possible) so that we can walk our dogs from the doorstep. (3 dogs all well travelled and used to livestock as we have a farm ourselves).
Any ideas would be welcome - must be isolated with no neighbours though.
Many thanks
