I'm a local to the hill and love to take my bike up there for a ride most weekends. I feel that the potential of the hill for great cross country biking isnt being used to its full. Now with the addition of the vistor centre it would be a shame not to develop the hill for other activities other than walking.

I am a keen amateur photographer and dog walker who lives very near to Haughmond hill. It is a very picturesque place with great flora and fauna. It boasts some outstanding panorama and is home to deer, badgers, fox and of course rabbit. It also is a great place for bird and insects. Not to mention a very pleasant walk quite a bit of which is wheel chair friendly and easy walking if your not so nimble on your feet anymore. Small children will get the opportunity to discover facts about the local stone and its connections to ancient seas and dinosaurs plus get a chance to see large machines at work in the quarry from a safe platform. I have seen very little evidence of the dog poo mentioned by others and it is inevitable that there will be some around there is everywhere these days with feckless people leaving dogs to do whatever wherever. Most however are very considerate around here as we are country folk who understand our responsibilities to the countryside and our stewardship of it. In short Haughmond is a great wood with several walks for all abilities and ages. there is something for everyone even in the winter when cooler temperatures make for very spectacular sun sets. Not unlike frosty dawns from the lyth. I have yet to walk all of the hill and woods but will return often over the years to catch its beauty at each passing season. Thanks for making it accessible to all. Kindest Regards The bomb

Dog walkers are encouraged to 'get a stick and flick' - much more eco-friendly than plastic bags. Some people hang their bags on trees which is much worse in my opinion than leaving it to disintegrate on the forest floor. Dog poo bags are a necessity in towns but in the country I think seeing them hanging on trees and bushes is worse than it being left on the ground.
