Bacton Wood

(Average user rating5 unrated 4.7/5)

Bacton Wood is thought to have had tree cover since Saxon times, being protected from conversion to agriculture by its steep slopes and poor soils. The original woodland included Sessile Oaks and two of these, which are thought to be over 200 years old, still remain. There are now over 30 species of tree in the wood including Scots and Corsian Pine, Western Hemlock, Douglas Fir and Larch. There are three waymarked walks denoted by colour routed posts.RECENT DEVELOPMENTS - A successful application for Leader+ funding has enabled facilities at Bacton to be greatly enhanced. New parking bays for the disabled have been added as well as picnic facilities. Surfacing of 175m of path close to the car park will assist all visitors. A new lych gate with interpretation board gives information about the history of the woods as well as the waymarked walks. A leaflet has also been produced.

A favourite spot for dog walking. Do object to the horse riders churning up the little pathways, there are enough decent paths for them. Seems unusual that there are bridal paths but horse are allowed everywhere..??
