Cookworthy Forest Centre

Cookworthy Forest Centre is leased to The Ruby Country. The Ruby Country initiative was started in 2001 to help build a stronger and more robust local economy and community. The area is outstanding as a food & drink producer and is a great centre for leisure & tourism, as well as offering a wide range of services.

Public car parking is situated on the opposite side of the road.

How to get there:

Cookworthy Forest Centre is in Cookworthy Forest.
From the Okehampton direction take the A3079, signposted for Bude. You will find the public car park on the right and Cookworthy Forest Centre on the left, two miles after passing through Halwill Junction.
From the Bude direction take the A3072 out of Holsworthy, and turn off onto the A3079 after about four miles, heading towards Halwill Junction and Okehampton. Follow this road for two miles. The public car park will be on your left, and Cookworthy Forest Centre on your right.
Halwill Junction and Holsworthy are the nearest towns or villages.

Please feel free to explore the many forest trails and tracks.
Cycling
Cycling is permitted on all forest roads in Cookworthy Forest. A new section of the Ruby Trail, a long distance cycle route being developed in the area, is now open. It currently runs between Halwill Junction Nature Reserve and the Cookworthy Forest Centre.

Due to the number of bridleways in this wood horse riding is free of charge.
Orienteering
Cookworthy Forest has a permanent orienteering course. Maps can be downloaded from the Devon Orienteering Club website - see the link on the right.

Nature Area

Behind the Forest Centre is a nature area, developed through the South West Forest project. This has ponds and wildflower meadows as well as a range of small tree and shrub plantings designed specifically to attract a range of wildlife. You are welcome to walk the informal network of paths in this area.
