Wildlife at Huntly Peregrine Wild Watch Centre

Children from the Huntly Peregrine Wildwatch Ranger Club making bird feedersAt Huntly Peregrine Wild Watch, our wardens and information displays provide details not only about the peregrines but also other regularly seen wildlife.

Mammals: Red squirrels and roe deer may be seen in the woodlands and from hide. We have information about Red squirrel and Roe deer

Birds: Find out more about peregrines raising chicks in their natural habitat. Experts are on hand to give advice on these birds and other wildlife and how to protect them. Other species seen on site include: Siskins, Tits, Finches, and Great Spotted Woodpecker regularly feed at the visitor centre. Crossbills, Wagtails, Pipits and Spotted Fly Catchers. Other birds of prey that might be seen include Buzzard, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel.

Insects and reptiles: Butterflies on our site include Orange Tipped Whites, regularly seen on site. We also have a pond rich in wildlife including Palmate Newts, Large Red Damsel Flies.

Habitats: Peregrine site in old quarry. Walk to hide through open woodland. In July and August wild flowers often seen on the edges of the paths and in the woodland. Visit the water world at our pond - why not have a go at pond dipping?

How to get there:
On the A96 3 miles north west of Huntly.

Wardens work closely with School groups; nursery, primary secondary and non-school groups, e.g. youth clubs, guides, cubs etc. Prior booking required. Contact Sheena on 01466 794161.
