NEWS RELEASE No: 7057

TAKE A RIDE ON THE DARK SIDE!

What is believed to be the most technically challenging North Shore-style mountain bike trail in the UK – the Kona Dark Side in Mabie Forest, near Dumfries – opens for business this weekend. (2-3 October 2004.)

And for those not quite brave enough yet to tackle the full force of the Kona Dark Side, there are other 7stanes trails for all abilities at Mabie Forest, including the red-graded Endura Phoenix Trail, and blue and green routes for beginners.

To read more about the thrills and spills of the Kona Dark Side and the other fantastic trails at Mabie Forest, check out the 7stanes website, www.7stanes.gov.uk , or call the office on 01387 272440.

Bike hire and refreshments are available on site at the G&G Cycle Centre. For more information log on to www.cycle-centre.com or call 01387 270275.

The 7stanes comprise seven mountain biking trail networks, either completed or under construction, in national forests across southern Scotland. The project is being managed by Forestry Commission Scotland with partners Scottish Enterprise Dumfries & Galloway and Scottish Enterprise Scottish Borders; Dumfries & Galloway and Scottish Borders Tourist Boards; Scottish Borders and Dumfries & Galloway Councils; Scottish Natural Heritage, Solway Heritage, and the Heritage Lottery Fund.

All the partners joined forces to raise £1 million towards the initiative, and match-funding from the European Union brought the £2 million project to life.
