A set of hand crafted giant heads can now be found in the heart of Glentress Forest, near Peebles.

The three heads, all situated at the popular Pond’s Trail, are set to be an added attraction to the forest which receives over 300,000 visitors a year.

Each head is made from woven willow and is seeded so that it will grow and change appearance during the seasons.

Visitors are encouraged to take pictures and upload them to a Facebook page with their thoughts on the giant heads.

Hugh McKay, Forestry Commission Scotland’s Recreation & Tourism manager in the Borders said:

“We are always looking for new and interesting attractions to add some extra spice to Glentress forest.

“We put a lot of time and investment into Glentress to try and make the visitor experience enjoyable. I can certainly say that having giants in the forest is a first for us.”

The project is a collaboration between Forestry Commission Scotland and creative events company Vision Mechanics as part of The Year of Creative Scotland.

Similar giant heads are also in a number of forest locations across Britain from Mull right down to the coast of Devon.

Artistic Director, Symon Macintyre from Vision Mechanics added:

“The project aims to connect people and their communities and invites them to reflect on the relationship with the environment, the seasons and life cycles. It’s a lot of fun and we hope visitors give us plenty of feedback through our Facebook page.”
